Claude Dashboards for finance teams
Short answer: Claude Dashboards is a beta feature on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans that turns a question about company data into a dashboard. Claude writes the queries, and each chart shows its SQL and when its data was last refreshed. It reads data warehouses such as Snowflake and BigQuery, and apps connected to Claude. Use it to explore, and tie every number to your books.
For finance teams the question is not whether Claude can draw a chart. It is where the data sits, who can see the dashboard, and how you prove the numbers. This guide covers what Anthropic documents today and what to test before you rely on it.
What Claude Dashboards is
- A beta feature on the Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans. On Enterprise it is off until an owner turns it on in Organization settings → Artifacts.
- You ask a question about company data; Claude writes the queries and builds the dashboard.
- Every chart shows its SQL query and when its data was last refreshed.
- Dashboards are saved in the Artifacts tab and are made from the Dashboards template.
- Anthropic describes them as built for quick, exploratory questions, and suggests sending a dashboard to another tool for deeper analysis.
Which data it can use
- Data warehouses: Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks and Snowflake.
- Other apps connected to Claude. Anthropic’s help page gives Salesforce as the example.
The help page does not say whether accounting connectors such as QuickBooks or Xero feed Dashboards. If your books live only in an accounting app, test with your own account, or use another route from the table below: Claude chat with an export, Claude for Excel or a small app built with Claude Code.
How to create a dashboard
- From a chat: ask for a dashboard, or select Output in the message box and choose Dashboards.
- From the Artifacts tab: choose a Dashboards template and describe what you want to see.
- Name the table or app if you know it, and describe the question you want answered rather than the chart.
- Refine in the same chat: add a filter, switch to a weekly view, split by department.
- Open a chart’s query to see how a number was calculated. If it is not counting what you meant, tell Claude what to change.
Finance prompts to start with
Build a dashboard of cash in and cash out by month for the last 12 months from [schema.table]. Use posted transactions only. Under each chart, show the monthly totals in a table and the SQL you used.
Show accounts receivable aging (current, 1–30, 31–60, 61–90, over 90 days) by customer from [table], as of [date]. Add the grand total so I can tie it to the AR balance on the balance sheet.
Compare budget vs actual by department for [quarter] using [actuals table] and [budget table]. Show the variance in dollars and percent, and say which sign is favorable for revenue and for costs.
Checks before you share a dashboard
- Tie one total to a known number for the same date: the trial balance, the bank balance or the AR subledger.
- Read the SQL of every chart: the date filter, posted vs draft entries, the sign of amounts and any accounts left out.
- Look at the last refreshed time before you quote a number.
- Decide who sees it. Dashboards start private to you; anyone you share one with sees the numbers.
- Remember that dashboards count toward your plan’s usage limits.
Claude Dashboards or another way?
| Situation | Best fit |
|---|---|
| Data already sits in a warehouse and you need a quick answer | Claude Dashboards |
| A one-off export from QuickBooks, Xero or the bank | Claude chat with the file, or our free CSV dashboard tool |
| The model has to stay in a workbook | Claude for Excel |
| The same report every week or month from new exports, with your own checks | A small app built with Claude Code |
All four routes are compared in how to build a financial dashboard with Claude.
Limits to know
- It is a beta, so features and plans can change.
- The help page does not describe scheduled refreshes. Check before you build recurring reporting on it.
- The help page does not describe data handling for Dashboards. Follow your plan’s data terms and your firm’s policy for client data; see what to check before using client data with Claude.
- On Team and Enterprise, only Owners and Primary Owners can turn Dashboards on or off. Enterprise owners can limit it to groups with custom roles.
