Claude and QuickBooks.
Three ways to connect.
Short answer: To connect QuickBooks to Claude, open Connectors in Claude, choose QuickBooks and sign in with Intuit; per Intuit it can pull P&L and cash flow reports and create invoices and estimates. To connect QuickBooks to Claude Code, install Intuit's open-source QuickBooks Online MCP server and start with a sandbox company. For dashboards, a CSV export is safest.
There are now three realistic ways to work with QuickBooks data in Claude. They differ a lot in setup effort, power and risk. This guide summarizes what Intuit publishes about each, as of September 24, 2026.
| Option | What it does | Setup | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| QuickBooks connector for Claude | Per Intuit: P&L and cash flow reports, industry benchmarking, importing transactions, creating, sending and deleting invoices and estimates (deletes need confirmation), customers and payment links. | In Claude, open Connectors, find QuickBooks, connect and sign in. Intuit states it is available to US customers only. | Owners and bookkeepers who want answers and routine actions in chat. |
| QuickBooks Online MCP server (Intuit, open source) | Per its GitHub README: tools covering 29 entity types and 11 financial reports, including create, read, update and delete operations, for Claude Code and other MCP clients. | Register an app on the Intuit Developer Portal and complete an OAuth handshake; configure the server locally. MIT licensed. | Technical users building custom workflows. Start in the sandbox environment. |
| CSV export | Export transactions or reports from QuickBooks and let a Claude Code-built tool process the file. | No integration. Export, simplify columns, import. | Dashboards and analysis where read-only data is enough. |
How to connect QuickBooks to Claude Code (MCP server)
Intuit's open-source QuickBooks Online MCP server lets Claude Code read and, if you allow it, change QuickBooks data. Steps from its README, checked October 14, 2026:
- Register an app on the Intuit Developer Portal, add the redirect URI
http://localhost:8000/callback(sandbox only) and copy the development Client ID and Client Secret. - Create or open a sandbox company in the developer portal.
- Clone the repository, run
npm installandnpm run build, copy.env.exampleto.envand fill in the client ID and secret, withQUICKBOOKS_ENVIRONMENT=sandbox. - Run
npm run authto sign in to the sandbox company; the tokens are saved to.env. - Add the server to Claude Code's MCP configuration, pointing to
dist/index.js.

"command": "node",
"args": ["/path/to/quickbooks-online-mcp-server/dist/index.js"],

"QUICKBOOKS_ENVIRONMENT": "sandbox",
"QUICKBOOKS_DISABLE_WRITE": "true",
"QUICKBOOKS_DISABLE_UPDATE": "true",
"QUICKBOOKS_DISABLE_DELETE": "true"
}
}
}
}With the three DISABLE switches set to true, only read and search tools are available. Production use needs a public HTTPS redirect URI for the one-time sign-in, per the README. Keep the client secret and tokens out of shared folders.
In Claude chat or Claude Cowork, the QuickBooks connector is simpler: in Claude, open Connectors, choose QuickBooks and sign in with Intuit. Per Intuit's help article it can pull P&L and cash flow reports, benchmark against similar businesses, import transactions and create, update, send or delete invoices and estimates (deleting needs your confirmation). See Claude Cowork for bookkeeping.
Which one should you use?
- Just need insights or routine entries in chat: the connector is the easiest.
- Building a custom tool that reads live QuickBooks data: the MCP server, starting in sandbox mode. Its README shows switches such as
QUICKBOOKS_DISABLE_WRITEandQUICKBOOKS_DISABLE_DELETE. Consider turning write and delete off while you experiment. - Building a dashboard or report: a CSV export is often safest. The tool cannot change your books, and you control exactly what data it sees.
Safety notes
- Anything with write access can change real books. Test on a sandbox company.
- Data Claude reads is sent to Anthropic. See our data guide.
- Verify totals against QuickBooks reports before relying on any AI-built view.
